Red face

Guys, I have the new CD "To The Stars" by the Elektric Band because I bought it at one of their gigs here in Italy, about two weeks ago. I've listened to it many times and I waited to write down something about it just for being sure of what I was listening. Well, the music it's not bad but it's so sparse and the main reason to this is because the cd is all about a book (with the same title and the same cover) written by Ron Hubbard that they were selling at the same time with the cd. What I'm trying to say is that it sounds too much like a soundtrack... too much, and not like a real elektric band cd. The booklet inside is full of lines taken from the book and it seems a real "book-along" type of cd. I'm not telling you that the cd it's not good, because it certainly has some good tracks on it, but, if you are waiting it like a "Inside Out" pt. II or something like this, well, this is just not the case. Ok, I'm a little bit disappointed by this cd, especially after I've heard playing these tracks live that sounds a lot better. I really hope that the next one (I hope they will do another...) would be better and a real cd by the greatest Jazz/fusion band of our times.
Do you want to know what? I do not feel the desire to listen to it again... and that's enough...
Peace

personally, i love the cd. slightly more acoustic feeling than others and is a mix of all their cds. thw writing is really great.

i was suprised that i was more hooked on the tunes than the playing.

I think it's the kind of album that would grow on you given some time... so far I am not digging it too much, but am willing to give it a couple more chances in hopes it does grow on me.

Though, I wish Dave would branch out more! When is the last time he played on a pop album? A metal album? A country album? You know what I am getting at here.

Dave has been Evolving as a drummer, but his music sure hasn't been evolving with him! All his albums sound the same and very dated (well, other than one or two - but not by much), same with all this Corea Electric jazz stuff.
IMO, of course!

Always a pleasure to watch him though!

I don't hate it, although different than what I was expecting. ALOT of latin feels, I like the Weather Report sounding tune (whatever it's called) and the opener pretty sick. It IS growing on me.
